হিন্দু আধিপত্য এবং শিলচরের নির্বাচন

“বরাক সহ অসমের সর্বত্র নেতৃত্বের অভাব কংগ্রেসে” এই শিরোনামে প্রখ্যাত সাংবাদিক সুবীর ভৌমিক আজ ( ০১-০৫-০৯) যুগশঙ্খে সঠিক লিখেছেন, “বরাকের বেশির ভাগ বাঙালি হিন্দু মানুষ সবসময় শক্তিশালী নেতা চেয়েছেন । দেশ ভাগ এবং সিলেট হারানোর গ্লানি যাদের সবচেয়ে বেশি প্রভাবিত করে, তাদের সবসময় একটা ভয়—এই বুঝি মুসলমানেরা বেশি বেড়ে গেল, এই বুঝি তাদের প্রভাব খুব বেড়ে গেল । মুখে না বললেও ব্যক্তিগত ভাবে কথা বলে দেখা যায় , এই ভয় রয়েছে বরাকের বেশির ভাগ বাঙালি হিন্দুদের মনে । অসমে সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে ভাষা আন্দোলনের সময়ও মুসলমানদের  খুব একটা কাছে না পাওয়ায় বাঙালি হিন্দুদের মনে মুসলমাদের  প্রতি সন্দেহ আরও বেড়ে যায় । তারা বোঝেনি যে প্রধানত কৃষক সম্প্রদায়ের এই মুসলমানদের কাছে জমির দখল ও অধিকার বেশি গুরুত্ব পাবে।

        কিন্তু এই সেণ্টিমেণ্ট কাজে লাগিয়েছেন সন্তোষমোহন, গৌতম রায়রা । ক্ষমতা দখলের জন্যে , ক্ষমতায় টিকে থাকার জন্যে । এখনো বরাকের অনেকের মনে ধারণা, এরা না থাকলে হয়তো মুসলমানেরা মাথায় চেপে বসবে । তাই এরা এলাকার জন্যে তেমন কিছু না করেও ভোট পান . . .”

        এই কয়েকটা বাক্য আসলে এও ব্যাখ্যা করে বরাক উপত্যকা কেন পিছিয়ে আছে। মুসলমান ও অসমিয়া বিরোধী আবেগ যতদিন টিকে আছে এই অকর্মণ্য  লোকগুলোর রাজত্ব এবং বরাকের পশ্চাদপদতা দু’টোই পাকাপোক্ত থাকবে। এ এক চিরস্থায়ী         বন্দোবস্ত ! আজকেরই যুগশঙ্খের অন্য এক সংবাদে আছে সারা বরাকে ট্রেন না চলার জন্যে তীব্র খাদ্য সংকট দেখা দিয়েছে, অথচ মাড়োয়াড়ি পরিবহণ চক্রটি এতে খুব খুশি । এদের বুঝি খুব ব্যবসা হচ্ছে। আমি নিশ্চিত যে এই চক্রটি সন্তোষমোহন ও তার দলকে নির্বাচনে প্রচুর  টাকা দিয়েছে । সেই টাকা তোলার জন্যে পাহাড় লাইনে গুলি চালিয়ে ট্রেন বন্ধ রাখার ব্যবস্থা করা হয়েছে। স্বাভাবিক ভাবেই এ নিয়ে আসাম সরকারও নীরব থাকবে এবং অসমিয়া জাতীয়তাবাদের বিরুদ্ধে ধুয়া তোলা সহজ হবে । ইতিহাস আপাতত এভাবেই লেখা হতে থাকবে ... কতদিন কেউ জানে না...

Hindu Hegemony and Election in Silchar

Under the headline “Borak Soho Asomer Sorbtro Netritwer Obhab Kongrese” (Everywher in Assam Congress is Lacking leadership”   famous reporter Subir Bhoumik has rightly written today ( 01-05-09)  in Dainik Jugasankha that, “Most of the Hindu people of Barak Valley have always wanted a strong leader for themselves. Those who leave under the  fatigue for   Bengal-partition and loosing Sylhet, they always suffer from the fear  complexity---as if the Muslims are suddenly going to get Bigger, Muslim are getting to increase their influence over these Hindus . Though they do not say so openly, any private interaction shows that majority of Hindus have such complexity. Hindus didn’t got too much Muslims as their companion in the Language movement against Assam Government. That also helped to increase their suspicion. They didn’t understand that these Muslim are mainly farmers, land question gets more importance to them.

            But, the leaders like Sontosh Mohon Dev and Gautom Roy used these sentiments to grab the power, to stay in power. Till today a good number of Barak citizens think that without these leader Muslims will leave no opportunity to rule. So, they get vote without doing anything for their respective constituencies. . . .”

        In my opinion these few sentences also explain the cause of Backwardness of Barak Valley.  As long as anti-Assamese and Muslim sentiments remain alive the reign of these worthless leaders will last and so will the backwardness of the valley. It’s a permanent understanding. In an another news in Jugasankha, it says, the valley is suffering from dearth of foods while the Maroary transport lobby is happy enough. Their business is running well enough. I’m sure that these lobbies has paid huge amount of money to the election fund of Sontosh Mohon Dev and his party. To raise that money they have arrainged the said Militant attack in the Hill Railway Track and stopped movement of all trains. It’s natural that the Assam government will remain silent and it would be very easy to arouse the sentiment against the Assamese   Chauvinism. For now the history will be written in this …how long, nobody knows….
